Ann Law

In 1983 while dancing in Miami, Florida, ANN LAW tore her right calf muscle. With the help of the sports medicine doctor from the Miami Dolphins football team, she slowly regained her flexibility. This injury led her to experiencing Joe Pilates’ work for the first time. Fifteen years later while struggling with the minor aches and pains of getting older, along with old dance injuries, Ann returned to the exercise methods of Joseph Pilates, studying his work at the Atlanta Ballet Studio in Georgia. It was there that she decided to continue investigating this amazing approach of re-educating the body by becoming a certified Pilates’ instructor under the guidance of Joe Pilates’ last disciple, Romana Kryzanowska.

Using her knowledge of dance, movement research, and somatic practices, she continues to grow inside Pilates’ specific method, finding new ways of developing body awareness. Not only does Ann love teaching the work, it keeps her strong and healthy as a dancer entering her 50’s.

Not only is Ann a certified Pilates instructor, she is also certified in the Pink Ribbon Program, a post-operative workout for enhancing recovery based on Joe Pilates’ work. As a post rehabilitative breast cancer exercise specialist who recently underwent bilateral mastectomies, she continues her own rehab through the combination of both these amazing programs.

All along, Ann has continued to think about how to share Joe Pilates's body conditioning system with more and more people. Over the last ten years, she has continued to discover many different and interesting approaches to his work, focusing on how to move Pilates into the 21st century. With fellow instructor Bobbi Moister, Ann finds a natural progression in mentoring more teachers. Ann and Bobbi have shared many ideas about a teacher certification program, recognizing the need for such a program in Southeast Tennessee. They have developed a program that enlightens Joe Pilates's method, supported by many other important somatic systems and similar practices, melding all the work into one intense and thorough program. Their first Teacher Training Pilates program begins October 3, 2009.

Bobbi Moister

Bobbi is a lifelong fitness enthusiast who developed a passion for Pilates after beginning classes at Barking Legs two years ago. In September 2008, she completed a 600-hour Pilates Certification Program, and she continues to learn and grow in her practice, attending teacher training workshops in Atlanta on the weekends. She began taking Pilates as a way to heal her lower back pain from years of training for marathons in NYC and PA. Of her Pilates experience, Bobbie exclaims: "I have completely changed my body and I am in the best shape of my life!", which is really saying something, as she has been jogging, biking and working out with personal trainers for the last 30 years!

Bobbie lends her endless energy and enthusiasm for Pilates to our studio, and her personal goal and service is to help her clients achieve their personal fitness goals! She currently teaches Beginning and Intermediate mat classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Sundays, and she is always available for private or duets.

Lauren Worley Knauth

For Lauren, a Chattanooga native, Pilates is a natural blend of her talent and interest. She grew up dancing from the age of 3 and learned throughout her childhood and teenage years how the body moves. After high school, Lauren moved to Knoxville and has lived in Washington DC, Texas and Australia gaining life experiences and developing a new passion for the field of training and development. While getting her masters in communication, Lauren learned how natural it was for her to take on the role as a teacher and trainer.

In May of 2010, Lauren became a certified Pilates instructor by completing a 600-hour program under the guidance of Ann Law. Pilates is a perfect match for Lauren.

“I love to see people feel empowered by Pilates and how their body changes during each session. Pilates is not just about strengthening and lengthening ones body, it is also about re-energizing your brain and re-aligning your body.”
